You may be aware that Massachusetts hoisting licenses expire every two years. The exception to this is when you first obtain it. After your hoisting license is initially issued, your first expiration date will be on your second birthday following the issue date. So, for example, if you obtain your hoisting license on June 1, 2025, and your birthday is June 15, your first expiration date will be June 15, 2026, which means your first renewal cycle was only about a year long.
From then on, you get the full two years for each renewal cycle, and your expiration date will be every two years on your birthday.

If you already have a hoisting license, and you add on a new restriction/grade, your expiration date stays the same. So, if your 2A hoisting license expires on August 12 of even years, and you add on the 1C restriction in February of 2026, that 1C license will still expire on August 12 of 2026, even though you just got it earlier that year.
