Qualifications
- The Heavy Motor Equipment operator must have the following licenses or obtain them within 180 days (6 months) of hire:
- valid MA Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an air brake endorsement
- hoisting license to operate loader, backhoe, excavator, catch basin cleaner, and special side boom mower (DPS 2A, 4E, and 4G)
- Preference will be given to applicants who have these licenses or are in the process of obtaining them (including having a CDL permit)
- Heavy equipment operation: 2 years (Required)
- Ability to Relocate:
- Franklin, MA 02038: Relocate before starting work (Required)

Responsibilities
- This is a full-time benefitted position and the incumbent will work 40 hours per week
- The Heavy Motor Equipment Operator is responsible for maintaining Town public ways, utilities, facilities, grounds, and athletic fields
- The HMEO operates construction, maintenance, and snow removal equipment and performs manual labor
- The Heavy Motor Equipment Operator is responsible for the following
- Provides extraordinary customer service
- Performs manual labor as a member of the DPW Crew
- Safely and efficiently operates construction, landscaping and maintenance equipment
- Assists in setting and resetting curbs; in laying water pipe, sewer and drain lines, hot top, mixing and applying concrete, in constructing and repairing manholes and retaining structures; and in repairing sidewalks
- Paints, repairs, and erects signs, outdoor benches, and other equipment
- Prepares and maintains athletic fields/school playground areas and related facilities, including mowing and trimming of grass, lining athletic fields
- Conducts yearly field maintenance, such as: aerating, seeding, top dressing, etc
- Shovels and sweeps snow manually from sidewalks and streets, schools and streets; sands streets and sidewalks and school parking areas
- Plows and sands roads
- Assists in the operation of drinking water and sanitary water plants / stations
- Reports to work in emergency situations and is able and willing to work overtime to respond to wind, rain, snow and ice storms, water breaks, and similar situations
- Performs other related duties as assigned in the DPW
- 8 hour shift (Winter 7am-3pm, Summer 6:30am-2:30pm)
- On call Overtime (4 hour minimum) Weekend availability
