Qualifications •Minimum five years’ experience installing and maintaining high and low voltage systems with recent experience in the maintenance and operation of commercial or institutional buildings •Must possess demonstrated proficiency in the use of industry-recognized diagnostic testing and troubleshooting equipment •Must be able to perform mathematical calculations required to accurately size and install system components and devices •Must be able to read and interpret detailed plans, drawings, specifications, operating manuals and other written materials associated with this trade •Must be able to effectively communicate and interact with peers and customers •Basic keyboard proficiency and understanding of Windows® based software •Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician license for minimum period of five years •Valid State driver’s license and driving history satisfactory to meet Campus Services standards •Required to supply a complete set of hand tools •Must be willing to work in research laboratory environments and around hazardous materials •Must be willing to accept a reasonable amount of overtime in support of group business needs •Required to wear a clean, neat uniform and maintain a professional image at all times •Must provide Campus Services with your current home address and telephone number at all times •Must be able to stoop and bend repeatedly and work on hands and knees and other awkward positions for extended periods •Must be able to lift up a minimum of 50 lbs
Responsibilities •Energy & Facilities (E&F) operates and manages Harvard’s energy supplies, district energy plants, and utility infrastructures on the Cambridge/Allston campuses, as well as 24/7 facilities -related call, alarm monitoring and dispatch center •Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs high and low voltage electrical equipment and systems, including but not limited to fans, pumps, motors, lighting fixtures, panels, outlets, and building safety equipment •Performs all installation, maintenance, inspection and testing in accordance with applicable standards and requirements of the Massachusetts State Building Code and/or established compliance requirements of the Authority Having Jurisdiction •Interprets and updates mechanical plans, drawings and prints as necessary •Must observe and comply with all standard safety codes and practices and perform work in accordance with recognized trade and University standards •Performs other core skills of the trades and related duties as required •May be assigned to work independently or as part of a multi-trade team under the guidance and direction of the Area Supervisor and/or Working Foreperson •Assists and advises customers on progress / status of work and provides responsive and effective customer support in all phases of building maintenance operations •with others (may use chain falls and come alongs for heavier lifting) •Must be able to routinely walk to and from various buildings or work sites carrying tools, equipment and other essentials •Emergency Status Designation:Critical Operations Personnel (required to provide on-site support during emergency situations as determined by management)
