Qualifications •High school diploma; additional technical training in electrical work; three to five years of experience performing a range of electrical work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience •Valid Driver’s License, Class D •Massachusetts Journeyman Electrician License •Knowledge of the Massachusetts Electrical Code, the principles and practices of electrical wiring and requirements for electrical service, fire alarms, energy management, HVAC controls and key card access systems •Ability to read plans and specifications, make repairs and address unique situations, lift heavy objects and perform strenuous labor, use power and hand tools and respond to emergencies to prevent damage •Skill in using hand and power tools; troubleshooting and problem-solving skills •Work is generally performed inside buildings; some work is performed outside in field conditions; strenuous physical effort is required •Vision requirements include the ability to read documents, plans, and specifications and operate tools and vehicles
Responsibilities •The Town of Brookline's Building Department is seeking an Electrician to perform electrical work in town buildings; to maintain, repair and install electrical equipment; including but not limited to main breakers/panels and subpanels, circuits , electrical feeds, fire alarm panels, EMS /HVAC equipment, motors,, starters, VFDs, lighting controls, emergency lights and exit signs, all lighting-interior and exterior •Perform inspections and troubleshoot motor control circuits, energy management circuits; perform testing /checking fire alarm systems, repair and replace electrical equipment; Perform work on lighting and heating systems; transport “genie lift” on trailer to various buildings; perform basic repairs on building generators; coordinate jobs with other personnel and outside contractors; assist other department personnel performing maintenance assignments to ensure compliance with applicable safety practices and standards; operate “genie lift” and bucket truck •Perform similar or related work as required, or as situation dictates •Licensed manual trade work maintaining and repairing town facilities; other related work, as required •Based on skills and training, and the needs of the department for specific trade specialties, a Senior Maintenance Craftsperson performs a range of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair and building construction related activities which may include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC or other technical skills •Each Senior Maintenance Craftsperson performs a range of maintenance activities, including painting, basic carpentry etc., but is a specialist in a particular field or trade •Perform electrical work in town buildings; maintain and install electrical equipment (distribution and signaling devices, including fire alarms, burglar alarms, keycard access, phone and data lines, and energy management systems •Perform inspections and troubleshoot motor control circuits, energy management circuits and ; perform testing perform testing of fire alarm systems; repair and replace electrical equipment (ballast, switches, receptacles, motor starters); •Supervision •Works under the general direction of the Director of Public Buildings and Operations Manager, following department rules and regulations; the supervisor establishes priorities, and provides work orders, general instructions and work assignments •Most work is performed inside buildings; some work may be performed outside in field conditions; work involves exposure to constant loud noise and exposure to potentially dangerous equipment •The workload and type of work is subject to seasonal fluctuations which can be specifically anticipated •The employee operates power, pneumatic and hand tools, trucks and other light equipment, and standard office equipment •The employee has contact with other departments, suppliers and contractors •Errors could result in personal injury, injury to others, financial loss, delay or loss of service and damage to equipment
