The Department of Mental Health (DMH) at Fuller Mental Health Center is seeking an experienced professional to serve as Plumber and Steamfitter. The selected candidate will perform a variety of tasks on both the interior and exterior of buildings, installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing/heating systems and associated equipment in accordance with mechanical, plumbing, EPA, and safety guidelines.

Schedule This position is 40 hours per week, working 1st shift, Monday through Friday 6:30am to 3:00pm. Days off are Saturday and Sunday.

Duties and Responsibilities: (these duties are a general Summary and not all inclusive):

• Completes installation and repairs to the plumbing and heating systems (including water, sewer, air, heating, and steam systems).

• Monitors and provides reports/recommendations on plumbing and heating systems with special reference to JCAHO and HCFA life safety requirements.

• Coordinates and supervises the activities of the Plumbing Department and its employees, by maintaining supplies/equipment, records, work assignments, schedules and conducting performance evaluations to ensure all policies and procedures are followed.

• Utilizes hand and/or power tools to measure, cut and thread pipes. • Connects pipes and fittings to joints by threading, caulking, leading, and/or other packings or adhesives.

• Inspects buildings through all areas to determine the need for repairs and ensure preventative maintenance measures are being taken.

• Interprets blueprints, sketches, instruction, or layouts, by reading job related materials to ensure information is understood for work to be completed safely.

• Provides estimates regarding length of time, cost of materials and manpower needed by using current market rates and man-hour output to develop a work project budget.

• Handles complaints from building occupants and provides appropriate corrective action by referring/assigning complaints to appropriate personnel.

• Confers with supervisor and manager regarding the scheduling of work, the handling of emergencies and the feasibility of installing plumbing equipment and materials in the area to ensure that needs of the agency are met expeditiously and at the convenient time.

• Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions/directions.

• Talent for establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships and deal tactfully with others.

• Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished.

• Skilled in controlling work through periodic reviews and evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with installation and/or maintenance of all plumbing related utilities, such as water, sewer, drains, steam, condensate, and air lines.

• Skilled in reading and interpreting plans and specifications.

• Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency. Minimum Entrance Requirements Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in plumbing and steam fitting. Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Plumber's license issued by the Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters.
