Qualifications
- Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of workers and the applicable regulation pertaining to such
- Ability to keep records and make reports
- Possession of a valid Massachusetts Commercial Drivers License issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with tractor trailer and air brake endorsement
- Possession of a valid Hydraulic Machinery License issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

- Salary: Grade 4, $1031.50 - $1258.43 weekly
Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Crew Leader HEO and Lead HEO
- Operates wide variety of special heavy equipment engaged in the operations of the Transfer Station and Disposal Area
- This position requires the ability to assist residents and address, correct, and report issues and incidents that may occur
- This position requires the ability to assist commercial customers and address, correct and report issues and incidents that may occur
- This position requires the ability to recognize and manage safety issues that may arise and correct any such issues in a timely manner
- Keeps records of work performed and inspects work for adherence to standards
- Supervision:
- Works under the supervision of the Heavy Equipment Operator Crew Leader and the Lead HEO who assigns work and inspects for proper completion and conformance with established policies and regulations
- Works with a number of transfer station employees engaged in a variety of tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the Transfer Station and the Disposal Areas
- Include the following; other duties may be assigned
- Operates heavy equipment such as, backhoes, frontend loads, tractors, trailers, roll-offs truck, compactors, screeners, grinders, and any other specialized equipment needed in the operations of the Transfer Station and Disposal Area and emergencies
- Performs routine inspections and maintenance of equipment to ensure readiness for daily operations
- Assists in keeping areas neat and clean daily
- Assists in the operations for the disposal and recycling of wastes and waste related materials on a daily basis
- Reports any delays, incidents, closure of areas, and problems relating to the transportation, loading, and off-loading material(s)
- Assists in the preparation of equipment for storms, operates plows and snow removal equipment
- Operate equipment for the other Departments should need arise
- Must be available for emergency/snow removal assignments as required
- Performs other work as assigned by the Director of Public Health, Crew Leader HEO and Lead HEO or their designee
