This course covers safety standards for wastewater treatment operations and is approved by the MA Department of Environmental Protection as 10 TCHs. Course topics include standards related to Wastewater Treatment Works (314 CMR 12.00 & 257 CMR 2.00), safety standards related to personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection, confined spaces, and standards related to the MA 3A Hoisting license, which is required for the operation of cranes often utilized in wastewater management.

Operators with an Active wastewater treatment plant operator (WWTPO) license are required to obtain 20 training contact hours (TCHs) during the 2-year renewal period that ends on December 31 of odd numbered years.
No more than 10 TCHs can be a safety-related training. The rest can be technical training. There is no requirement to take safety training – just a max. There is no cap on technical training – you can earn all 20 hours in technical training.
Renewals occur every two years and are due by December 31 of odd-numbered years. Renewal forms are mailed out at the beginning of September. The renewal fee is $75. ALL operators, Active or Inactive, are required to renew their WWTPO license, which includes paying the renewal fee. All operators are issued a pocket/wallet license card (showing a license expiration date) once renewed.
