Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications: High school graduation; one year of experience in highway construction including heavy automotive equipment operation; or any equivalent combination
- Possession of a valid MA Class B Commercial Driver's License
- Possession of a valid MA Hoisting Engineer License, 2A

- This is a Grade 5 IUOE Local 98 union position with a salary range of $23.25-$30.65/hour, 40 hours per week
Responsibilities
- The Town of Belchertown is accepting applications for a Heavy Equipment Operator I to operate heavy motor equipment and perform manual work assisting in construction, maintenance and repair projects of the public works department
- Major duties include: Assists with street maintenance and repair projects by performing manual work and operating most public works department equipment
- Operates heavy equipment and light equipment of moderate complexity; operates front-end loaders, backhoes, heavy dump trucks, sweepers, light tractors, jack hammers, small rollers, and roadside mowers; operates vehicles providing roadway snow removal and deicing
- Inspects equipment for safety; lubricates and makes minor adjustments to the equipment as necessary; Assists the Mechanic/Truck Driver in servicing automotive equipment as necessary
- Sweeps sidewalks and roads, rakes and mows lawns; pickups and hauls debris and rubbish; shovels snow; Makes, repairs, and installs street signs
- Assists other town departments; installs water lines; assists in construction/maintenance projects within the wastewater treatment plant
- May be called to work at the Transfer Station and Parks Division
