Qualifications
- High school diploma supplemented by course work in basic and advanced wastewater treatment and basic laboratory techniques and procedures or equivalent; and one to three years of related experience required
- Massachusetts Wastewater Treatment Operator License Grade 5
- Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s License
- OSHA 10 Certification
- High school or equivalent (Required)
- MA Wastewater Treatment Operator License Grade 5 (Required)
- MA Driver's License (Required)

Responsibilities
- The WWTP Operator performs technical and administrative work in monitoring wastewater treatment system operations
- They read charts and gauges, note operational problems, and recommend adjustments to maintain system balance
- The WWTP Operator ensures smooth daily operation and maintenance of the wastewater facilities, does manual work, and operates equipment on projects
- Perform plant operations, including monitoring meters and gauges and logging periodic readings such as clarifier blanket readings and dissolved oxygen readings, hypo chlorite readings, calibrating meters, waste sludge, exercises valves, operating plant pumps and machinery, monitoring and adjusting equipment timers, servicing flow meters and flow charts, operating and servicing automatic samplers, performing process control calculations, based on laboratory test results, keeping records, charts, and logs concerning plant process control and operations,
- Make necessary operational adjustments to the system and chemical additions based on laboratory results
- Perform plant maintenance and laboratory analysis and maintain plant laboratory in accordance with regulatory agency standards
- Perform required tests, including (but not limited to) pH, TSS, BOD, and E-Coli; collect samples from various locations
- Skim primary tanks for grease and scum; skim chlorine contact chamber
- Monitor conditions and operations at pump stations
- Clean and calibrate meters as needed
- Perform custodial and groundskeeping duties as necessary
- Responds to alarms
- Performs similar or related work as required or as the situation dictates
