Hourly Starting Rate With Required Licenses: $25.04 , Hourly Starting Rate Without Required Licenses: $23.79
Summary:
Routine to complex manual work in the operation of heavy motor equipment which requires a high degree of dexterity and sensitivity, inspecting the equipment for proper operating condition and carrying out certain preventative maintenance procedures; related work as required and all duties as assigned. Required to assist other Public Works Divisions, including snow and ice removal.
Essential Functions:
• Operates road grader, truck-mounted rotary snow blower-loader, large front-end 4-wheel drive loader, street sweeper, and equipment normally assigned to a Heavy Motor Equipment Operator.
• Inspects equipment prior to operation to assure that all controls and safety devices are functioning properly.
• Lubricates and otherwise services the equipment as part of a programmed preventive maintenance schedule.
• Reports major malfunctions to the Working Foreman-Motor Equipment Repairman and may assist in making major repairs
• Performs such manual work as erecting signs, welding, painting and performing body work on trucks, building catch basins and installing drainage pipe, patching potholes, raising manhole and catch basin covers prior to street resurfacing, erecting snow fences and cutting brush along roadways.
Work Hours:
The hours are conveniently 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM Monday through Friday, with overtime as required. A daily 30-minute lunch as agreed upon by the Public Works - Supervisor - Highway.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School graduation plus sufficient work experience or technical training to perform assigned duties at the journeyman level; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Abilities and Skills:
Thorough knowledge of departmental operations, ability to apply knowledge and experience to any departmental functions; skill in performing work at the journeyman level. Skill in operating specialized construction and maintenance of motor equipment.
Special Qualification:
Class B Motor Vehicle Operator’s License Hydraulic Hoisting License minimum of 2A, 2B, 4E, 4G, and 1C
