Starting From the Bottom
When a floor collapses or when mold appears on it, we can be sure of one thing. Such problems likely began when poor choices were made selecting materials, from the level of the grade to the level of the finished floor. Like the problems they spawn, choices made in proper or improper floor design, begin at the bottom and work their way upward. This portion of the course takes a systematic look at decisions made in choosing specific components of construction, from the ground to the top of the first finished floor. Those choices need to be sound and dependable, since the top of that floor is the base upon which the rest of the enclosure will rest.

Paul Spite

The majority of this course was written by an industry expert, Paul Spite, a registered architect for nearly forty years. After graduating from Ball State University with two degrees, one in Architecture and one in Environmental Design, Paul worked as a construction manager and facility manager, gaining a wide range of practical knowledge about the buildings he designs. Through his passion for teaching, he passes on his knowledge and experience to students in an interesting, easy to understand format.

Upon completion of the course, your certificate is immediately available for download.

Our website was built on one foundation: ease of use! We didn't integrate a random course player from a 3rd-party. Instead, our software is custom built to offer you the best user experience possible. To catch a glimpse of our course player, and learn about its benefits, click here.

We didn't take the cheap route; we paid for a professional reader in a studio to provide you with optional audio narration. No computer voice. No echo. Just a soft, pleasant voice to read to you, if you choose.

Don't have time to finish your course(s) in one sitting? Don't worry about it. Our "bookmark" feature will automatically save your progress down to the exact location - so all you have to do is click "resume" when you're ready to continue on.

Resources:

Professional Engineers licensed in Florida must take 18 continuing education (CE) course hours every two years in order to renew their licenses.

Of the 18 hours, one hour must relate to the Florida laws and rules of Professional Engineers, one hour must relate to professional ethics, and four hours must relate to area of practice. The remaining 12 hours may be related to any topic pertinent to the practice of engineering.

Beginning with the 2018 license renewal, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation will be moving the Construction Industry Licensing Board & Electrical Contractors' Licensing Board to a paperless licensing system. If you have any questions, please contact the DBPR Customer Contact Center at (850) 487-1395, as agents are fully equipped to handle any inquiries.

Paperless licensing adds value for our licensees in the following ways:

  • They will now have the ability to print licenses "on demand" rather than waiting for a license to be mailed. This is true for both new applications as well as renewals, and will allow them to get their license faster and get to work more quickly.
  • Licensees will never have to pay for a duplicate license again, saving them money.
  • A licensee can print multiple copies of their license, giving them more flexibility.

For instructions on self-printing, please click here.

FBPE conducts a random continuing-education verification audit of its licensees in June following a renewal cycle. If you are selected as part of the audit you will be notified by the Board and be required to provide proof of completion of all hours related to your continuing education for that last renewal cycle. If you have any questions regarding record retention of CE hours or reporting please contact the Board office at (850) 521-0500, ext. 113, or email cedesk@fbpe.org.

At Leisure will issue you a certificate of completion immediately upon course completion. Save this certificate for your records in case you get audited.
