Qualifications •High School Diploma or Equivalent •Massachusetts Grade 2B Hoisting License Required •At minimum must possess a Massachusetts Water Distribution License Grade I (1) Collection System License and must obtain a Grade II (2) within one year of hire •Minimum five (5) years’ experience operating a backhoe, with minimum one (1) year experience working with a municipal water system •Willingness to perform heavy manual labor with a working knowledge of hand, air and hydraulic tools
Responsibilities •In addition to performing the duties of a water system maintenance worker, responsibilities include the as needed operation of various Water Department heavy equipment for the repair and installation of water mains, water services, and appurtenances •This person must be available for emergency work in the event of a water main or service failure and may be required to work emergency night stand-by duty •Under supervision/direction, excavates and backfills trenches, lifts and lowers materials, and loads and unloads trailers •Is responsible with the H.M.E.O. - for the operation and Maintenance of all heavy equipment •Keeps a maintenance log on machinery and schedules maintenance at the Central Maintenance Garage •Repairs trenches and excavations by patching with bituminous and concrete materials •Install and/or remove domestic, commercial and industrial meters •Dig and repair service boxes and rods as needed •The ability to work in diverse conditions including but not limited to rain, extreme heat, extreme cold, rugged landscape •Performs all related duties as directed by Water Superintendent or other supervising authority
