Qualifications

•Training and experience in principles of engineering design and solution of engineering problems

•Training or experience in hazardous waste site cleanup, including remediation technologies, engineering design and construction

•Ability to effectively communicate technical and non-technical issues both verbally and in writing

•Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

•Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments

•Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license

•Skill in using personal computers for word processing and data analysis

•Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, environmental science, or one of the natural sciences

•Valid State of Florida Professional Engineer License

•Must have OSHA Certification or the ability to complete the training for certification within 6 month of hire

•Candidates claiming Veterans’ Preference must attach supporting documentation with each submission that includes character of service (for example, DD Form 214 Member Copy #4) along with any other documentation as required by Rule 55A-7, Florida Administrative Code

 

Responsibilities

•The Waste Site Cleanup Section and Drycleaning Solvent Cleanup Program manages the state-funded investigation and cleanup of hazardous waste sites and emerging contaminants, coordinate with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) during the cleanup of federal Superfund National Priorities List (NPL) sites, and implements the Florida Drycleaning Solvent Cleanup Program

•This is a highly technical position which is responsible for providing engineering review and design analysis for a statewide program for the remediation of hazardous waste sites

•Provides engineering support and assistance to the Section’s project managers

•includes review of remedial investigation/feasibility studies, engineering design documents, and

•documents associated with construction (as-builts, change orders, completion reports, etc.)

•Required to review professionally certified and sealed documents

•Works with section technical

•staff in evaluating selected remedial action plans and ensures compliance with State law and

•Provides written comments

•Reviews remediation system operational data to ensure optimal system run-times and to reduce

•Recommends system modifications to reduce unnecessary costs and improve

•Assists section staff with implementation of remediation projects and project

•Assists in developing and implementing Section procedures and policy for the engineering

•design, construction, and long-term operation and maintenance of site cleanups

•Establishes communications with state, federal, and local governments, universities, and private

•and change orders and that the project is satisfactorily performing the function for which it was

•designed and built

•Performs on-site final inspection of construction activities for cleanup

•projects, as necessary

•Acts as project officer on cleanup projects at hazardous waste sites

•Performs other duties as required
