Qualifications
- A current and valid driver's license is required
- Minimum of 6 years' experience as a Journeyman Plumber working in industrial, commercial, or school environments
- Study and analyze blueprints and floor plans to understand the plumbing system and water supply system layout
- Must have experience operating and maintaining oil and gas-fired heating systems and boilers
- Must be able to work alone and safely use ladders, lifts, and other means as needed
- Must be able to read color prints and follow verbal and written instructions
- Must be available to work extra hours and respond to emergencies as needed and required
- Must pass Dedham's CORI, SORI, and fingerprinting requirements
- High School or Trade School Diploma
- Vocational training certificates
- The position is physical requiring moderate to heavy physical effort to perform duties
- The employee is frequently required to walk or stand for extended periods of time, sit, speak, hear, and use hands to operate equipment and tools
- The employee occasionally lifts objects weighing up to 75 pounds
- The employee will be subjected to all weather conditions
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle
- A satisfactory pre-employment physical is required
Responsibilities
- The incumbent performs general Plumbing maintenance and repair duties in all municipal structures
- Building maintenance duties will include general building maintenance repairs
- Perform corrective and preventative actions to repair, replace, and maintain all plumbing systems throughout all municipal properties
- Ensure compliance with building codes and safety standards in all installations and repairs
- Plan, install and service plumbing systems, fixtures, piping equipment and controls; test pipe systems and fixtures for leaks
- Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine the layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks and waste and drainage systems
- Make repairs as directed by the Director of Facilities, Trades Supervisor, or designee
- Repairs include, but are not limited to, working with other trades to complete projects, building security, building inspections, and other duties as required
- Coordinate building repairs with the Director of Facilities, Trades Supervisor, or designee
- Navigate the assembly and installation of pipes and tubes without interfering with existing infrastructure
- Measure, cut and bend pipe material
- Assemble valves, fittings, tubes and water system appliances
- Install and maintain building water systems
- Troubleshoot and fix issues relating to water supply lines
- Repair and replace system issues such as clogged drains, faucet problems, broken drainage lines and so on
- Maintain current knowledge of state regulations affecting plumbing work
- Snow emergency response is required
- Performs Building Maintenance and Preventative Maintenance
- Conducts school and town building inspections as directed
- Maintains clean/safe mechanical spaces
- Works with any Facilities Department employee as required
