Qualifications
- Knowledge and understanding of snow plowing and removal operations
- Available on a 24/7 basis during the winter season
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including design, use, repair, and maintenance
- Excellent observation skills and strong attention to detail
- Good analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a team
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in English
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience operating similar equipment
- Valid driver's license required
- Valid Massachusetts hoisting license (as applicable)
- Ability to walk, stand, crouch for long periods, and carry out strenuous physical tasks
- Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment, and materials
- Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
- repeatedly throughout a shift
- Requires good manual dexterity and stamina
- Regular work near heavy equipment and moving vehicles
- Work outdoors in extreme winter conditions, including cold temperatures and snow
Responsibilities
- The Winter Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of equipment to support snow and ice management during winter weather events
- This is an on-call, seasonal role
- Operators may be assigned equipment such as: front-end loaders, skid steers, tenant sweepers, Kubota tractors with attachments, or pickup/dump trucks with plows
- Operate assigned equipment during winter events to clear snow and ice
- Respond promptly to calls/texts for winter operations
- Ensure designated areas are adequately and safely cleared
- Communicate job completion and site conditions to the Site Manager
- Inspect equipment regularly and perform basic maintenance (fueling, checking fluids, etc.)
- Follow all safety rules, policies, and site regulations
- Report all incidents or accidents involving equipment
- Clean trash and refuel machines after each use
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
- Complete daily paperwork detailing job hours and costs
- Support the Site Manager with additional tasks as needed
- Comply with all company policies, procedures, and local safety laws
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Technical aptitude with snow and landscape equipment, including: pickup/dump trucks, skid steers, loaders, pushers, and attachments
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and determine necessary repairs
- Fast-paced environment with varying workloads
- Field work in adverse weather conditions, including snow, rain, noise, and cold
- On-call schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays
