Resources:

The FBPE shall require a demonstration of continuing professional competency of engineers as a condition of license renewal or re-licensure. Every licensee must complete 9 continuing education hours for each year of the license renewal period, totaling 18 continuing education hours for the license renewal period. For each renewal period for such continuing education:

  1. One hour must relate to Chapter 471 and the rules adopted under the chapter.
  2. One hour must relate to professional ethics.
  3. Four hours must relate to the licensee’s area of practice.
  4. The remaining hours may relate to any topic pertinent to the practice of engineering.

The provider must maintain all attendance records for at least four (4) years after the date of the offering of each course or the receipt of documentation for completion of a home study or interactive distance learning course. See Rule 61G15-22.012, FAC.

Beginning with the 2018 license renewal, the Department of Business and Professional Regulation will be moving the Construction Industry Licensing Board & Electrical Contractors' Licensing Board to a paperless licensing system. If you have any questions, please contact the DBPR Customer Contact Center at (850) 487-1395, as agents are fully equipped to handle any inquiries.

Paperless licensing adds value for our licensees in the following ways:

  • They will now have the ability to print licenses "on demand" rather than waiting for a license to be mailed. This is true for both new applications as well as renewals, and will allow them to get their license faster and get to work more quickly.
  • Licensees will never have to pay for a duplicate license again, saving them money.
  • A licensee can print multiple copies of their license, giving them more flexibility.

Continuing Education providers do not report CE credits to the DBPR, but provide certificates to licensees as required by rule. Licensees may be selected for an audit of Continuing Education, in which case the licensee will need to provide the appropriate certificate to FBPE.
