DOL Personal Protective Equipment Training Course - National

The life of every human being is precious. Yet due to negligence and improper safety measures, thousands of workers die each year in the construction industry alone. To minimize or eliminate casualties and fatalities, OSHA requires employers to protect their employees from workplace hazards through proper and effective engineering or work practice controls. When these controls are not feasible, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.

It is the employer's responsibility to assess the workplace hazards. If they are present or likely to be present and work practice controls alone are not sufficient, then the employer must provide personal protective equipment to the exposed employees. This course gives you a basic understanding of OSHA's role in the prevention and elimination of work-related casualties and fatalities.

Upon successful completion of this course and the accompanying survey, you will receive a completion card from the provider of this course on behalf of the Department of Labor. This completion card will normally take 4-6 weeks to process and ship. YOU MUST COMPLETE THE SURVEY AT THE END OF THIS TRAINING TO RECEIVE YOUR DOL CARD. Once you complete the course, you will be provided with a completion certificate. Please be aware the certificate is not an official document. It serves only as evidence of your completion of the course until you receive your official Department of Labor card in the mail.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discover engineering and work practice controls that can eliminate or reduce hazards before using PPE.
  • Discuss OSHA requirements related to personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify and discuss various types of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Study training and other essential factors associated with personal protective equipment (PPE).

Tests/Quizzes:

At the end of every lesson, you will be given a short quiz to test your knowledge of the material presented in that lesson. These lesson quizzes will help you prepare for the final exam. You will be able to view every assessment result, which answers you got wrong and right, and feedback as to why the right answer is the most correct. All quizzes must be passed with a 70% to proceed forward to the next lesson. The final exam must be passed with a 70% to successfully complete the course. If you fail any quiz or exam three times you will be permanently locked out of the OSHA Outreach Program online and will be forced to complete the course in the classroom.
